WWII WEAPONRY
These guns that are pictured here are (from top to bottom) the grease gun the Thompson , the m1911the m1a1 carbine and the m1garand, last but not least the Browning Automatic Rifle.These guns were used in WWII by the Americans. The government wanted more durable weapons that allowed fighting in harsh conditions thus allowing for weapons that worked well during battle.
History of the grease gun:
The grease gun fires .45 caliber rounds and can be converted into 9mm parabellum rounds with a conversion kit. It was a mass produced weapon that was cheap and easy to make. The Thompson was a weapon that was favored amongst soldiers because it was reliable. It fires .45 caliber rounds. The m1911 model was first used by the troops in 1911. This pistol was created to suit the necessities of soldiers that needed a pistol with more stopping power because the standard .38 caliber pistols were no providing sufficient stopping power thus having soldiers put more than three rounds into the desired target to bring it down. This is how browning came up with the .45 caliber pistol. The m1a1 carbine was designed to be a lightweight rifle that soldiers could carry with ease and allowed more accuracy than a pistol and it weighed less than a standard rifle. The m1a1 Carbine weighs 5 pounds and it cost $45 dollars to produce. This weapon was then used widely by soldiers that had specialized training.
History of the m1 Garand:
This rifle was the standard issue riffle. This rifle fires a 30-06 round. The cost of production of this rifle was $85 dollars. Weighting 9.5 pounds this rifle was durable and was accurate. This rifle was the standard issue for soldiers in WWII. It is a semi auto weapon thus having no bolt action necessary from the user allowing for quicker follow up shots. History of the BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle):
This rifle was made to be a portable automatic weapon that gave great covering for and fired 30-06 rounds allowing for greater stopping power. This rifle was to be the lightest automatic weapon that was made for the soldiers allowing it to be portable although it only had a 20 round magazine it still proved to be powerful and a well built weapon it was also widely used by soldiers and it was favored amongst soldiers.
